We ask you, urgently: don’t scroll past this

Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.

Not yet begun to fight - Romney's secret weapon against Obama

Romney is a brilliant money manager and his war chest will still brim in August.

Media attention has focused on Obama's fundraising machine that is rumored to be preparing a reelection campaign war chest of almost $1 billion - although such an amount seems unlikely. Such a fundraising apparatus, if it exists and is working as advertised, could make Obama a much more formidable political opponent. However, Romney is quietly amassing a formidable war chest of his own.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - The point is, don't count Romney out. Romney is quietly raising record amounts of funds from supporters across the country. These millions are ready - and waiting, to go to work against Obama.

Despite criticism, Romney has one strength that cannot be questioned - he is a wizard with money. His business experience and connections are turning into a secret weapon as his campaign amasses millions.

Campaign documents and other records reveal that Romney is gathering support from wealthy friends and colleagues. However, federal law does not require Romney to disclose the identities of his fundraisers, and Romney's campaign is keeping mum.

Romney continues to attend private fundraisers with donations from each ranging in the hundreds of thousands. Business professionals seem particularly keen to elevate one of their own to office, and may be quick to donate.

For example, Stephen Ross, the billionaire owner of the Miami Dolphins hosted an event for Romney in his Palm Beach, Florida home. Later that month, Romney's campaign received $317,000 from confidential donors in Ross's zip code. And a month later, $21,000 came in from the same area.

The winning strategy involves people called "bundlers." Bundlers use their social networks and connections to solicit large sums for their cause or candidate. Romney's bundlers tend to be high-level, well connected, and wealthy. As such, they are able to pull in hundreds of thousands of dollars in a single evening.

Romney's fundraising acumen is likely to be a decisive issue in the upcoming election. Romney is the heir apparent to the Republican nomination, but the protracted primary campaign has him spending money against his opponents such as Rick Santorum, money that could otherwise be spent against Obama.

However, his ability to raise funds means the cost of the protracted Republican primary will be less of a factor than many pundits suggest and we can expect Romney to come out swinging against Obama.

In any case, the time between August and November will undoubtedly prove to be the most expensive period in reelection history, and the nation should prepare itself for record spending by both candidates.
