Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.

Obama's approval ratings are the lowest ever.

In a poll that should surprise none, President Obama's approval ratings have sunk to a new low, dropping below 40 percent for the first time ever. The daily poll, conducted by the Gallup Organization and released Sunday says that 39 percent of Americans approve of President Obama's performance while 54 percent disapprove.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - The drop in the polls may be caused by a number of recent factors including disapproval from his own party with the debt deal, and the rise of the myriad Republican contenders for the presidency who are actively criticizing his performance. The very real drag on his approval, of course, is the economy which remains sluggish despite repeated efforts to strengthen it. Other polls suggest that Americans are becoming disenchanted with incumbents which include Obama.

President Obama is begging the people to stick with him as his popularity slides. "We've still got a long way to go to get to where we need to be. We didn't get into this mess overnight, and it's going to take time to get out of it," Obama told the people over the weekend. Still, Americans appear to be losing patience.

President Obama is just 15 months from defeat or a second term and the time for him to reverse his numbers is growing short. Another Gallup poll, released on Friday showed that Democrats have a narrow edge over Republicans with 51 percent supporting Democrats and 44 percent favoring GOP lawmakers, "if elections for Congress were held today."

In an effort to bolster his ratings, the President is beginning a bus tour of Minnesota, Iowa, and Illinois. The trip is designed to distract from the Republican excitement over the Ames Straw Poll where ultraconservative candidates such as Michelle Bachmann and libertarian leaning Ron Paul gathered most of the votes and the buzz.

The Gallop three-day tracking poll was conducted from August 11-13. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 points. The congressional poll was conducted August 4-7 with a margin of error of plus or minus 4 points.
