We ask you, urgently: don’t scroll past this
Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.Help Now >
Rep. Steve King: Jesus Had Right to Life from Moment of Conception
FREE Catholic Classes
'You cannot take a chance with life anymore than you can shoot a gun into a crowded room and take a chance that you might not kill somebody. You cannot guess about when life begins. You have to pick an instant. There's only the instant of conception. And once you understand that human life is sacred in all of its forms and it begins at the instant of conception, you will never lose a debate and you'll never lose your conviction.'

P>WASHINGTON, DC (CNSNews.com) - Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) told CNSnews.com in a videotaped interview that Jesus Christ had a right to life from the moment of conception as do all human beings.
"He got the right to life when God conceived Him in the womb of Mary, and it's that simple and that plain and it's that profound," said King. "Each one of us got the right to life at the instant of conception and we have that right to life until natural death."
King also likened someone who supports legal abortion because they profess not to know when life begins to someone supporting the act of a gunman who fires blindly into a crowded room and never looks to see if he actually killed someone.
Here is a transcript of Rep. Steve King answering the question of when Jesus got the right to life:
Terry Jeffrey: When did Jesus get the right to life?
Rep. Steve King: He got the right to life when God conceived Him in the womb of Mary, and it's that simple and that plain and it's that profound.
Each one of us got the right to life at the instant of conception and we have that right to life until natural death.
I often go into a high school auditorium or meet with people at even the K-through-12 level in their entirety, and I will tell them: "You will be asked to answer one of the most profound moral questions of our age and that is where do you stand on the abortion issue. And you need to only ask and answer two questions. The first question is do you believe that human life is sacred in all of its forms. Is the person sitting to your left and to your right and everyone in this room, is their life sacred?" And they'll nod their heads.
And then I'll say: "Do you believe your life is sacred?" And they'll nod their heads. And we have a universal agreement that the lives of the people in that auditorium are sacred in all their forms.
Then I simply ask them: "When did your life begin? And you have to pick an instant. And there's only one instant and that is the instant of conception.
"In fact, if you want to argue that you really don't know, that it might be the first, second or third trimester or viability, tell me: If someone were to walk down this hallway and stick a gun in the door, turn their head away from the gun and pull the trigger and run out the door and we catch him out there, did he kill somebody or didn't he?"
And they'll look at each other and say, "Well, we don't know."
But it isn't good enough to say we don't know. He won't know either. But if somebody's dead, he killed somebody. You cannot take a chance with life anymore than you can shoot a gun into a crowded room and take a chance that you might not kill somebody. You cannot guess about when life begins. You have to pick an instant. There's only the instant of conception. And once you understand that human life is sacred in all of its forms and it begins at the instant of conception, you will never lose a debate and you'll never lose your conviction.
