Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.Help Now >
Guest Opinion: Democrats for Life PAC Was a Kiss of Death in 2010
FREE Catholic Classes
Now we know that most voters were terrified and outraged by Obamacare. Now we know that tea party activists turned elections toward human and constitutional rights. If we are going to protect innocent lives, we must fight aggressively to plant the whole-life flag in the Republican, Democrat and tea parties. It will take all parties and all independents working together to reestablish defense of the human person from the embryo to the elderly.

P>HOLLYWOOD, CA. (I Am Whole Life) - As president of HERO's Whole Life America, I warned Democrats for Life of America that its deceptive "Whole Life Heroes" PAC was the kiss of death. While the DFLA attempted to use our name and confuse voters by urging the re-election of Rep. Bart Stupak's (D-MI) Obamacare collaborators - instead it united pro-lifers and whole-lifers.
During campaign 2010, DFLA's executive director Kristen Day accused pro-lifers of lying about the threats to life in Obamacare. Now, two weeks after widespread Democrat defeats and pro-life elections, Ms. Day remains silent.
The majority of Americans didn't buy DFLA's misnamed Whole Life Heroes PAC pushing the Marxist party line. And with her support of Obamacare, Kristen Day, a proclaimed Catholic, betrayed the faith. After all, Obamacare imposes collectivism, it funds the abortion industry, it establishes government death panels, and it will severely fine the poor - the very persons who can't afford insurance.
In other words, the DFLA failed miserably and here's how it went down.
Surgeon Dan Benishek (R-MI), defender of the human right to life from conception to natural death and proponent of repealing Obamacare, will replace the DFLA's lead 'Hero,' Rep. Bart Stupak.
In Illinois, results were mixed. DFLA's Rep. Dan Costello was re-elected. Yet while Congressman Dan Lipinski was rejected by the DFLA, he didn't need its PAC. This lone pro-life Democrat - the unique Dem to vote against Obamacare - won re-election.
Likewise in Indiana, some Hoosiers re-elected DFLA crony Rep. Joe Donnelly, but others replaced the DFLA's Rep. Baron Hill with pro-life and pro-adoption attorney Todd Young (R).
Minnesotans had enough of DFLA's 18-term career politician, Rep. James Oberstar. Navy veteran and pro-lifer Chip Cravaack (R) will be their new voice in Washington.
In North Dakota, DFLA also lost. Voters served Congressman Earl Pomeroy with an eviction notice and they're sending pro-life State Rep. Rick Berg (R) to the U.S. House.
In Ohio, voters re-elected just one DFLA favorite, Rep. Marcy Kaptur, but ousted three others. Rep. John Boccieri will be replaced by John Renacci (R), who said, "I am 100 percent pro-life and in Congress I will vote that way." Rep. Steve Driehaus ignored his constituents and tried to squelch the truth about his Obamacare vote by filing criminal charges against the Susan B. Anthony List. As the DFLA official, Day joined the Driehaus assault by filing affidavits.
However, the ACLU of Ohio filed a friend-of-the-court brief defending the SBA List, and Driehaus lost to former Congressman Steve Chabot (R), who wants to repeal the "power grab." Finally, Rep. Charlie Wilson was defeated by pro-lifer Bill Johnson (R).
In Pennsylvania, voters fired three more DFLA Heroes: Reps. Chris Carney, Kathy Dahlkemper and Paul Kanjorski. These losers will be replaced with former U.S. Attorney Tom Marino (R), Mike Kelly (R), and Hazelton Mayor Lou Barletta (R), respectively - all pro-lifers and all committed to true healthcare reform.
Virginians booted a DFLA favorite as well. Rep. Tom Perriello must leave Capitol Hill and State Senator Robert Hurt (R) is moving to Congress to protect life and kill Obamacare.
The voice of the late Rev. Richard John Neuhaus resounds to this day. As the story goes, when Neuhaus was a young, liberal Lutheran pastor, he said, "The greatest tragedy in contemporary American politics is that the pro-life flag is planted in the Republican side of the debate."
No matter which way we look at it, the Democrats for Life PAC was a kiss of death. Will DFLA continue the tragedy? Or will the organization join us in the great campaign for human dignity?
