We ask you, urgently: don’t scroll past this

Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.

'We need now more than ever to have the courage to look the truth in the eye and to call things by their proper name'

What Anne Nicol Gaylor is doing is Evil. It should not be given the legally favored status of a "Charity" under the law. It is more akin to a War crime. After all, there is an undeclared War on the Womb and she is helping to fund it by writing checks. So far,18,986 checks and counting! The Bizarro World of Charities that Kill and Tax Deductions to those who fund Evil must be exposed. In John Paul's words "Given such a grave situation, we need now more than ever to have the courage to look the truth in the eye and to call things by their proper name."

P>MADISON, WI (Catholic Online) - One of our most popular writers on Catholic Online is Jennifer Hartline. She just returned from visiting family and sent me an article from the Wisconsin State Journal, written by Doug Erickson, and entitled " Crusader with a Checkbook: Anne Nicol Gaylor helps women fund abortions".

In this piece Erickson writes about 83 year old Anne Nikol Gaylor who looks like she just stepped out of central casting ready to play a grandmother. However this "grandmother" has written 18,986 checks to pay for abortions in her leadership role with the "Womens Medical Fund" , recognized as a charity under both Wisconsin Law and the Internal Revenue Code.

This "charity" explains its mission on its website: "Womens Medical Fund Inc - Helping to ensure access to safe, legal abortions for Wisconsin's neediest women." It  explains further, "The right to choose an abortion is meaningless without access to abortion services. Although abortion is legal, increasingly restrictive laws are limiting access for all women. Poor women unable to pay for an abortion are effectively denied access to complete health care services.

"Federal and state government funds cannot be used to pay for abortions; most health insurance will not pay for abortions. Wisconsin has the most restrictive abortion laws in the nation. Poor and rural women are particularly hard hit by these laws. One law mandates two visits to a doctor, 24 hours apart, increasing the costs of obtaining an abortion. Wisconsin has limited abortion clinic services, located only in Milwaukee, Madison and Appleton; often women must pay for travel, childcare or overnight accommodations in addition to using scarce resources to pay for an abortion."

On Gaylor's 80th birthday she sponsored a fundraising event to raise funds to fund abortion  - which is the taking of innocent human life in the womb. Those funds go mostly to poor women to assist them in aborting the children in their womb. There is no effort to offer counseling or any kind of abortion alternative. Erickson writes, "Gaylor used the occasion of her 80th birthday to hold a fundraising party for the fund at the Madison home of Dr. Dennis Christensen, an abortion provider who has since retired. Gaylor sent invitations far afield, including one to a well-to-do woman in California she'd never met but who had donated to the Freedom from Religion Foundation. The woman sent her regrets and a $20,000 check."

This 83 year old woman who looks like a grandmother was a co-founder of this deadly fund in 1976. That year she also helped to found another 'charity" called "The Freedom from Religion Foundation"  also located in Madison, Wisconsin. That Charity mission states, "The nonprofit Freedom From Religion Foundation works to educate the public on matters relating to nontheism, and to promote the constitutional principle of separation between church and state. The Foundation is the nation's largest association of freethinkers (atheists, agnostics and skeptics) with more than 15,500 members. Since 1978, the Foundation has acted on countless violations of the separation of state and church, and has taken and won many significant complaints and important lawsuits to end state/church entanglements."

As an example of the work of this "charity" we need only examine the work of the infamous advocate of religious cleansing in the United States, Michael Newdow. He is the lawyer/physician who regularly files lawsuits to eradicate any mention of God in the public square. An example is his ill fated effort to remove the words "under God"  from the pledge of allegiance. He was honored for his efforts by the "Freedom from Religion" Foundation in 2002 and later became a member of one of its Boards.

Erikson offered a quote from a pro-Life activist in Madison regarding Gaylor's activities in writing checks to fund abortion, which is the taking of innocent human life in the first home of the whole human race - as well as her response: "It's a stark example of misguided compassion that serves as discrimination of the worst kind," said Peggy Hamill, state director of Pro-Life Wisconsin. "To finance extermination of pre-born children because those children would have been brought up poor is deplorable." Gaylor said no one is chasing down low-income pregnant woman. They're simply the ones who come to her. "If that's discrimination, so be it"

He also offered some examples of  what he called Gaylor's "way with language": "Gaylor may look like Betty White, but her words still carry the socko punch that once led an audience member at the taping of a Philadelphia talk show to rush her from behind and put her in a chokehold. On large families: "How presumptuous of someone to think the world is interested in a half-dozen or eight or 10 of their kids." On anti-abortion activists: "They're religiously motivated, not intellectually motivated." On abortion: "A blessing."

Yes, you read that correctly, she calls procured abortion "a blessing".

This article brought me back to my childhood obsession with Superman comics. I date myself by mentioning the Bizarro world. However, many of my readers will remember the term. The Bizarro's inhabited "Htrae" ("Earth" spelled backwards). Their code was "Us do opposite of all Earthly things! Us hate beauty! Us love ugliness! Is big crime to make anything perfect on Bizarro World!" We seem to be living in Bizarro World these days. Sadly, "charity" has become deadly in the hands of 80 year old women who look like Grandmothers in this new Bizarro world.

The Venerable John Paul II wrote in his Encyclical Letter "The Gospel of Life" : "Among all the crimes which can be committed against life, procured abortion has characteristics making it particularly serious and deplorable. The Second Vatican Council defines abortion, together with infanticide, as an "unspeakable crime". But today, in many people's consciences, the perception of its gravity has become progressively obscured. The acceptance of abortion in the popular mind, in behavior and even in law itself, is a telling sign of an extremely dangerous crisis of the moral sense, which is becoming more and more incapable of distinguishing between good and evil, even when the fundamental right to life is at stake.

"Given such a grave situation, we need now more than ever to have the courage to look the truth in the eye and to call things by their proper name, without yielding to convenient compromises or to the temptation of self-deception. In this regard the reproach of the Prophet is extremely straightforward: "Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness" (Is 5:20)." (Par. #58)

Our struggle to build a Culture of Life requires the courage to call what Anne Nicol Gaylor is doing Evil.  It should not be given the legally favored status of a "Charity" under the law. It is more akin to a War crime. After all, there is an undeclared War on the Womb and she is helping to fund it by writing checks. So far,18,986 checks and counting! The the Bizarro World of Charities that Kill and Tax Deductions for those who fund Evil must be exposed. In John Paul's words "Given such a grave situation, we need now more than ever to have the courage to look the truth in the eye and to call things by their proper name."
