Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. ATLANTA, GA (Catholic Online) - Georgia Senate Bill #529 is entitled the "Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act'. It is a well drafted piece of legislation. It has had the benefit of review by some of the Nation's finest Pro-Life Lawyers, including lawyers from the Thomas More Law Center, the American Center for Law and justice, Liberty Counsel, Americans United for Life and other public interest groups. Here is a portion of the legislation: "Title 16 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to crimes and offenses, is amended by revising subsection (b) of Code Section 16-12-140, relating to criminal abortion, and adding new subsections to read as follows:

"(b) A person commits the offense of criminal abortion when that person performs an abortion:
(1) With actual knowledge that the pregnant woman is seeking the abortion as a result of unlawful coercion;
(2) With the intent to prevent an unborn child from being born based upon the race, color, or gender of the unborn child or the race or color of either parent of that unborn child;
(3) With the actual knowledge that the pregnant woman is seeking the abortion with the intent to prevent an unborn child from being born based upon the race, color, or gender of the unborn child or the race or color of either parent of that unborn child;." The Bill prevents coerced racially eugenic abortions. Let me repeat, it protects against the heinous practice of selectively aborting children based upon race or gender. It also protects against coercive abortions. Catherine Davis is the Director of Minority Outreach for the Georgia Right to Life. She confirms what the statistics all demonstrate. There are a disparate number of abortions performed on women of color. Today, abortion kills more African-Americans, per year, than heart disease, cancer, respiratory disease, accidents, homicides, suicide, and cancer-combined. Abortions in the black community occur at 3x the rate of those among the white population and 2x that of all other races combined. Ms. Davis told LifeNews.com, "According to the CDC, of the 38 states that report, Georgia is currently leading the nation in abortions in the black community. African-Americans make up 30% of the population and 59% of the abortions..In 2008, according to the Georgia Division of Health, 18,901 abortions were performed on black women. SB 529 seeks to protect these women and their children, from making decisions they did not want to make." In February of this year, Georgia Right to Life, along with the Radiance Foundation, promoted a Billboard effort in Georgia called "Too Many Aborted.com". Billboards appeared on major highways which portrayed a black child with the words "Black Children Are an Endangered Species."  A strong advocate of that effective public interest campaign and a strong supporter of this important piece of legislation is Dr. Alveda King, the stalwart defender of Human Rights and niece of the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Back in February, when the Billboards made National news, Dr. King said "Abortion on demand has always been sold - and 'sold' is the word - as an answer to a whole host of problems, but instead of eliminating economic hardship, familial stress, or societal ills, it has only eliminated people, a disproportionate number of whom were African Americans.. Like the stunning video Maafa 21.com, the 'black babies are an endangered species' billboards bring home the message that abortion is predicated on lies. It's time that those lies were exposed." Dr. King is not the only outspoken supporter of the "Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act." She is joined by the Georgia Chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC). They had also been joined by the Georgia Chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Color People (NAACP) who only recently publicly supported the legislation. However, the State Chapter of the NAACP has now changed their mind. They have withdrawn their support of this important legislation. The Bill is scheduled for a vote this week.  Georgia State Senator Chip Pearson was the sponsor of SB 529.It applies to abortion "the same standards of nondiscrimination" that govern employment, education, government and housing. It provides for enforcement of the existing law regarding the Women's Right to Know. It empowers women who have been coerced into having an abortion, giving them the opportunity to bring suit against abortionists who violate Georgia law.

Edward DuBose, the NAACP chapter president released this statement in an effort to explain the inexplicable, the organizations complete about face on this legislation: "Earlier this month, the Georgia NAACP submitted a letter to support Senate Bill 529. We now fully understand the intention of this legislation and wish to retract our support for it. At the time, we were of the understanding that this bill would work to benefit the women in our community. However, after many conversations with membership and constituents, we now realize that this is nothing more than using women's health as a political tool. "Women of color in Georgia need more than divisive messages and deserve better access to health care.We look to the Georgia General Assembly to support initiatives that benefit the community including education and prevention services and working to reduce health care disparities. SB 529 does nothing to address these goals" Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee has publicly endorsed the legislation. He released this statement: "SB 529 is a simple bill that prevents a woman from being forced to have an abortion against her will and prohibits the use of abortion as a means of race or gender discrimination. I'm asking you to support SB 529 and to ask your representative to support SB 529." Dan Becker of the Georgia Right to Life welcomed the Governors support noting "We are grateful for the support of Governor Huckabee and other national and state leaders both in the faith community and in the African American community who see why we have to do more to protect women from being forced to have abortions against their will." So, the Georgia chapter of the NAACP has now formally rescinded its endorsement of a Bill which bars physicians from performing abortions in those cases where the child in the womb is selected to be killed based upon race or gender. The question must now be asked, Does the Georgia State Chapter of the NAACP Support Racially Eugenic Abortion?
