We ask you, urgently: don’t scroll past this

Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.

WASHINGTON, DC (Catholic Online) - Passage of the controversial health care bill is now assured as Rep. Bart Stupak and other pro-life democrats have agreed to vote "yes" following a promise from the White House that the President would immediately sign an executive order banning the Federal funding of abortions.

Politico.com has reported that this final obstacle to passing the legislation was overcome, referencing an announcement from White House Communications Director Dan Peiffer. Today´s statement indicated that President Obama "will be issuing an executive order after the passage of the health insurance reform law that will reaffirm its consistency with longstanding restrictions on the use of federal funds for abortion."

With this assurance, Stupak and other pro-life representatives put the final pillars in place to prop up the democrat´s version of health care reform.

"We´ve always said. . .that we were for health care reform, but there was a principle that meant more to us than anything, and that was the sanctity of life," Stupak told a news conference after hearing of the executive order. "We have the assurances from the president that he won´t rip this up tomorrow."

Also present at the news conference were Representatives Marcy Kaptur of Ohio, Kathy Dahlkemper of Pennsylvania, Steve Driehaus of Ohio, along with Alan Mollohan and Nick Rahall, both of West Virginia.
