WASHINGTON, DC (Lifesite News) - We are seeing the Obama Democrats come out these past few days revealing, more explicitly than ever before, their true nature of being political thugs. All stops are being pulled to ram their health care legislation through - no matter how much the American public opposes it, no matter how much they have to lie and trash the constitution and legislative traditions, and no matter how much they have to bribe or threaten fellow Democrats who won't go along with their corrupt program. The Virginia Society for Human Life wrote in an urgent email to its members on Friday, "Most political observers agree that if Speaker Pelosi does not succeed in ramming the Senate bill through the House by the time Congress goes into recess for Easter on March 26, the bill is effectively dead. Pelosi wants to force the vote by March 19." And then Wesley Smith directs us to a post on National Review online by Yuval Levin. Levin writes, "Democratic leaders should be asking themselves just how they have gotten to the point that their strategy is to amend a law that doesn´t exist yet by passing a bill without voting on it." With the Democrat leadership's latest moves, bi-partisanship, transparency, and political ethics are all dead. Any means is being used to justify the end. Abuse of power is rampant. The comments to Stupak that health care funding of abortion will result in fewer babies and therefore lower government social costs, is very revealing. These folks are raving, heartless anti-life ideologues, seemingly along the lines of Planned Parenthood's racist founder Margaret Sanger. When human life is measured only by its cost, then you know there are wider and very concerning implications about what such people believe and will do. Bart Stupak, one of the most likeable and straight up guys in Congress, is now being threatened with ethics complaints. And all he has been fighting for has been to maintain the status quo of the many years in place Hyde Amendment. Stupak's amendment still allows government funding of abortions for rape and incest or when the mother's life is threatened, as did the Hyde amendment. Even with his amendment there would still be many serious problems with the legislation, such as lack of conscience protection for health care workers, although the abortion situation would be mitigated. Bishop Paul Loverde of the Catholic Diocese of Arlington has proposed what is likely most needed at this time, other than an avalanche of calls to congressmen and Senators. The bishop has declared Monday, March 15 a day of prayer and fasting with the intention of protecting pro-life values in health care legislation. Loverde further explained, "Through our fasting and prayers, we ask the Lord to lead the hearts and minds of our nation´s leaders as they make crucial decisions concerning the protection of life." It looks like God's intervention is needed to stop this train wreck from happening to America. Join in. And from all that I have seen and read, the best thing to pray for to protect pro-life values in health care - at least according to many pro-life leaders - is a total defeat of the legislation.
