Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (Catholic Online) - The Gospel story of the "Good Samaritan" comes in response to a question posed to Jesus by a Lawyer: "There was a scholar of the law who stood up to test him and said, "Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?" Jesus said to him, "What is written in the law? How do you read it?" He said in reply, "You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your being, with all your strength, with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself." He replied to him, "You have answered correctly; do this and you will live." But because he wished to justify himself, he said to Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?" (Luke 10:25-29)

Jesus replied, "A man fell victim to robbers as he went down from Jerusalem to Jericho. They stripped and beat him and went off leaving him half-dead. A priest happened to be going down that road, but when he saw him, he passed by on the opposite side. Likewise a Levite came to the place, and when he saw him, he passed by on the opposite side. But a Samaritan traveler who came upon him was moved with compassion at the sight. He approached the victim, poured oil and wine over his wounds and bandaged them. Then he lifted him up on his own animal, took him to an inn and cared for him. The next day he took out two silver coins and gave them to the innkeeper with the instruction, 'Take care of him. If you spend more than what I have given you, I shall repay you on my way back.' Which of these three, in your opinion, was neighbor to the robbers' victim?" He answered, "The one who treated him with mercy." Jesus said to him, "Go and do likewise." (Luke 10: 30 - 37)

During the last Presidential campaign Barack Obama regularly called us to become a Nation which recognizes our obligations to our "neighbors." It was great rhetoric, but it was hollow. Throughout that campaign this lawyer did everything I could to try to get the candidate to respond to the same question posed by the lawyer in the Gospel passage cited above, Who is my neighbor? I simply could not fathom how any candidate could call us to recognize our obligations in solidarity to one another as neighbors and fail to recognize that the baby in the first home of the whole human race is also our neighbor. Yet, that is the current state of affairs in America. The positive law protects the continued abuse against our first neighbors which always results in their death.

In the aftermath of the appalling behavior attributed to the organization A.C.O.R.N., which maintains that its mission is to reach out to the poor, the marginalized and the disenfranchised, there is a growing call for an investigation of Planned Parenthood. I support the call. Long time Pro-Life activist Gary Bauer in a Sept. 25, 2009 article entitled "Planned Parenthood Deserves the ACORN Treatment" called for Planned Parenthood to be "stripped of the hundreds of millions the hundreds of millions of tax-payer dollars it receives annually" noting:

"The similarities between ACORN and Planned Parenthood are hard to ignore. Like ACORN, which seeks to "help those who have historically been locked out become powerful players in our democratic system," Planned Parenthood has a noble-sounding mission. 'For more than 90 years', its website informs us, 'we've worked to improve women's health and safety... and advance the right and ability of individuals and families to make informed and responsible choices.' But both organizations are marred by a culture of corruption... "

I support the call from Gary Bauer, share his concerns and hope that the truth about Planned Parenthood comes into the public light very soon. One only has to go to their web site to see their callous disregard for the dignity of our neighbors in the womb. Under the section entitled "In Clinic Abortion procedures" http://www.plannedparenthood.org/health-topics/abortion/in-clinic-abortion-procedures-4359.htm We find the following material:

Or you may be offered the abortion pill.Whether you're thinking about having an in-clinic abortion, you're concerned about a woman who may be having one, or you're someone who's just curious about abortion methods, you may have many questions. Here are some of the most common questions we hear women ask about in-clinic abortions. We hope you find the answers helpful. We need to be crystal clear about this: Planned Parenthood is engaged in the taking of innocent human lives. They charge women, many of whom have been deceived and are themselves the second victims, for the killing of those children. The "medical professionals" who perform the acts engage in surgical strikes, brutal suction or, what they euphemistically now call a "medication abortion", the use of a chemical weapon, all with the explicit intention of killing our neighbors in the womb. You see, they do not recognize them as "neighbors." However, they are. Every procured abortion is the intentional taking of innocent human life in the first home of the whole human race. Every person alive today began their human life in that sanctuary of life, the womb. No one with any integrity or genuine moral sensibility is any longer claiming that the child in the womb, whom we now surgically operate on and whom we can see clearly in 4D images, is not a human being.

The argument being made to try and justify this killing of our neighbors is the perverse idea that "freedom" enables the one with more power to engage a so called "medical professional" to reach in the sanctuary of the womb and take the life of that vulnerable and innocent child. Of course, we would not make the same argument about a one year old child living outside of the womb, in the nursery. However, there is no moral distinction between what Planned Parenthood does and someone engaging in that kind of horror. The time thresholds of "viability", as interpreted under the inane structure forced upon us by the Roe and Doe decisions, keep getting pushed back as our technology reveals the truth about our smallest neighbors. Science has simply confirmed what our consciences have known all along.

Our positive law has rejected the Natural Law prohibition against this intentional homicide against our youngest neighbors. There is never a "need for abortion". There is a need for helping the mother who is carrying our new neighbor during the pregnancy and throughout life and needs our help in doing so. The father also needs our help. The child needs our help upon birth and then throughout the continuum of life. However, there is never a "need", nor a moral justification, for taking innocent human life.

On February 5, 2009, President Barack Obama delivered some remarks at the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington D.C. They included these poignant and provocative words: "But no matter what we choose to believe, let us remember that there is no religion whose central tenet is hate. There is no God who condones taking the life of an innocent human being. This much we know." Yet, that is precisely what we are doing in every intrinsically evil act of taking the life of our youngest and smallest neighbors, for any reason and at any time. We call it a "right" and then protect the bloody, violent act with the Police Power of the State.

The parable of the "Good Samaritan" presents a litmus test for any Nation which boasts of concern for our "neighbors." By relegating an entire class of persons, our youngest neighbors in the first home of the whole human race, to the status of property to be disposed of, we commit a continuing egregious evil. Planned Parenthood Federation of America in its 2006-2007 Annual Report indicated that it had assisted in the killing of 289,750 of our neighbors. They brought in a total income of over $1 billion. How much of that money came from grants traceable to the Federal Government and is now being used to kill our littlest neighbors? It is time for someone to find out.
