We ask you, urgently: don’t scroll past this
Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.Help Now >

Do not be misled - the word 'abortion' does not have to be mentioned specifically in order for abortion coverage to be included in the bill.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Catholic Online) - The President and many in Congress seem to be hell-bent on passing health care reform legislation quickly, whether it's good legislation or not. Of the many problems with the current forms of the bill in existence, the most evil is the attack on the dignity of human life, specifically the inclusion of mandated, federally-funded, nationwide abortion coverage.
Do not be misled - the word "abortion" does not have to be mentioned specifically in order for abortion coverage to be included in the bill. Remember what we learned from the Stop The Abortion Mandate webcast in July. The language of the bill is key, and pro-abortion legislators will make the language vague and subtle on purpose in order to fill in the blanks later after the bill has passed and "key health officials" (like HHS Kathleen Sebelius) are sitting down to decide what's covered and what's not.
That's why pro-life Representatives have been fighting all along to pass amendments that will specifically exclude abortion coverage from the bill, and all of those amendments were defeated. Without this exclusion, abortion coverage will be required as a basic component of "reproductive health care."
All that we have done so far has made a difference, and we must continue to insist that protection for the unborn be included in any health care reform. The simple fact is, Abortion Is Not Healthcare!
An update from the Stop the Abortion Mandate Coalition today outlines another way we can communicate this message to our Congressional Reps. I urge you all to take these steps and continue to call and email your Representatives daily - keep up the good fight!
The Coalition writes:
"This Thursday, September 10, the Stop the Abortion Mandate coalition is launching a new national grassroots initiative entitled:
"VOID THE ABORTION MANDATE"
We need YOUR help! Since all of you can't be with us
when we launch this initiative at a press conference
in Washington, D.C. on Thursday, we are asking you to
use every virtual tool at your disposal to help get
the message out.
Want to help? It's easy.
Here's what to do:
1.) On Thursday, September 10, go to:
http://www.StopTheAbortionMandate.com and click on
the graphic of the voided check. Send that check
by e-mail to your U.S. Representative and two
Senators. Print out three copies, tear them up,
and mail them to your Representative and Senators.
Tell them you don't want the government paying for
abortion, and to keep abortion OUT of health care.
2.) Download the voided check graphical icon this
Thursday and post it as your Facebook photo, link
to it on Twitter, post it on My Space, etc. Go
here to download the photo on Thursday:
http://www.StopTheAbortionMandate.com
3.) Send this e-mail or a link directly to:
http://www.StopTheAbortionMandate.com to your
family, friends, prayers groups, book clubs --
everyone you know! Please ask them to join you in
helping to stop the abortion mandate.
Together, let's send a clear message this Thursday to
the abortion industry, their allies in Congress, and
the President:
"KEEP ABORTION OUT OF HEALTH CARE!"
As always, remember the real weapon we have against the culture of death is prayer, and at this critical hour, we must pray without ceasing. Hearts and minds must be changed. But while we are praying, let's also act quickly and persistently to urge our lawmakers to respect all human life from conception to natural death. We simply cannot accept any legislation that does not protect the sanctity of human life. There's no compromise or common ground... there's only life or death."
