California Supreme Court Rules in Favor of Proposition 8

The Associated Press is reporting that the Supreme Court of the State of California has ruled in favor of the constitutionality of Proposition 8.

SAN FRANCISCO (Catholic Online) - The Associated Press is reporting that the Supreme Court of the State of California has ruled in favor of the decision of the people of California in the "Proposition 8" ballot measure cases.

Several lawsuits had been filed by homosexual activists who argued that the ballot initiative violated the Equal protection clause of the State Constitution. They therefore argued that the ballot meaure had to have the approval of the State Legislature before it could proceed.

According to early reports, the Supreme Court upheld the ballot initiative as a constitutional expression of the will of the people. However, it appears that they refused to find the 18,000 claims to marriage by homosexual partners were unconstitutional.
