WASHINGTON (Catholic Online) - An Italian Newspaper has reported that a new Ambassador to Italy is going to be named, Obama-donor David Thorne, the former brother-in-law of John Kerry. "Panorama" reporter Carlo Rosella also predicted that the Caroline Kennedy would be picked as the next candidate for Ambassador to the Vatican.
Rosella reported that the appointment comes as a result of a personal request from Kerry himself, who divorced Thorne's sister in 1988, but remains close friends. Thorne,60, is the founder of Advisor Investments, a personal money management firm established in 1994.
The news that Caroline Kennedy may be Italy-bound as the Ambassador to the Holy See has many Catholic blogs churning. If she is,presented as the candidate, and this is all simply reports at this point, this would underscore that President Obama is insistent in placing a Catholic in this position who holds doctrinal and moral views in opposition to their Church.
Kennedy's position on abortion and same-sex marriage is a matter of public record.
On January 2, 2009, LifeSiteNews.com reported that "Within the first week of her candidacy, Ms. Kennedy promised to work for several causes, including same-sex marriage and abortion rights.
"In responding to a series of 15 questions posed by the New York Times on Dec. 21," LifeSite stated, "Ms. Kennedy said that, while she believes 'young women facing unwanted pregnancies should have the advice of caring adults,' she would oppose legislation that would require minors to notify a parent before obtaining an abortion."
According to the Associated Press (AP) in December, 2008, upon her consideration as a candidate for the Senate seat vacated by Hillary Clinton, one of Kennedy's first contacts was with Kelli Conlin, president of the pro-abortion group NARAL.
Conlin told the AP, "I really do see her as someone who could take up the mantle that Hillary has sort of started in terms of commitment to reproductive health care."
Kennedy, the daughter of former president John F. Kennedy may be best remembered to most Americans for the loss of her father at the hands of an assassin's bullet. She has, however, built a behind-the-scenes career in politics until she surfaced visibly in support of the presidential candidacy of Barack Obama.
She is a graduate of Radcliffe/Harvard University as well as Columbia Law School and served as an intern for her uncle, Senator Edward Kennedy. She also worked at The New York Daily News and even published an article in Rolling Stone magazine on attending Elvis Presley's funeral.
She is the co-author of two books, "In Our Defense: The Bill of Rights in Action" published in 1990, and "The Right to Privacy" which was published in 1995.
Currently the President of the Kennedy Library Foundation, Kennedy also serves as the director of the commission on presidential debates and the NAACP legal defense and education fund. She is married and the mother of three.
The Vatican will have the final say on who is seated as the next Ambassador for the United States. Given that three previous pro-abortion candidates for the post were rejected, it seems unlikely they would accept Kennedy.
