Sebelius Confirmation Delayed: Time for Catholic Action
FREE Catholic Classes
We have witnessed the growth of a phenomenon I have called in the past 'Anti-Catholic Catholics'. They must be exposed, opposed and replaced. It is time for a new Catholic Action.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Catholic Online) - Reliable sources confirm there has been a delay in the final vote for Governor Kathleen Sebelius to be confirmed as Secretary of Health and Human Services. Reports are that some Republican members asked the Senate Finance Committee to defer the vote until after the two week spring break.
In the hearing which already occurred not one Republican or Democrat asked the nominee the questions which truly matter to anyone who cares about the fundamental human rights issue of our age, the Right to Life. Respect for human dignity is the framework for our very claim to being a civilized society. That respect must include the recognition of the right to life of our youngest neighbors, children in the womb.
The President spoke frequently of our obligations to our neighbors when he ran for the office. Children in the womb are our neighbors. Our Medical Science confirms it. Our consciences confirm it. The shrill repetition of slogans cannot assuage our guilt over letting the travesty of abortion on demand wreak such havoc in our Nation. We should cease using the police power of the State to protect the intentional killing of our youngest neighbors by giving abortion a "super right" status. There is no other "choice" to take the life of any other group of persons recognized in our positive law.
Perhaps one of the strongest voices among those who defend the Right to Life in the political arena to express indignation over the lack of action by allegedly pro-life elected officials was the President of the Susan B. Anthony List, Marjorie Dannenfelser. The Susan B. Anthony List works to elect Pro-Life women to public office. She spoke with refreshing clarity to the Press recently saying, "I think it's appalling...I think this is why Republicans are in the minority."
I say "Bravo!" - Enough of the "strategy" arguments from the Republican Representatives who, while claiming to support the Right to Life, have compromised on this essential nomination.
The real scandal in the unhindered progress of this nomination is the lack of outcry from Catholics in either major Political Party to the confirmation of a nominee whose own Bishop has spoken repeatedly to her over her infidelity to the truth concerning life. The Bishop did this out of pastoral concern and in an effort to help her to come back to the truth and into the full communion of the Church. His action should be a clear indicator to Catholics who know the truth, especially those in Congress, concerning their obligations. He has warned all of the faithful of her egregious error.
This administration continues to put forward Catholic candidates who are dissidents when it comes to the very foundation of all Catholic Social teaching, the dignity of every human person from conception throughout the entirety of life and unto Natural death. A Catholic elected official, Republican, Democrat or Independent, who claims to care for the poor and shuts his or her ears to those whom Mother Teresa rightly called the "poorest of the poor" is deceived, deluded or simply being unfaithful to their Baptism.
The position of the Catholic Church is absolutely clear. This position is rooted in the Natural Law and confirmed by medical science. Every procured abortion is the taking of innocent human life. Any positive law which protects the taking of innocent human life in the first home of the whole human race is intrinsically unjust and cannot be supported by any faithful Catholic with a well formed conscience.
If confirmed, Governor Sebelius will be placed in charge of building a new health care system in the United States. She has already made her positions clear. She will support the fabricated "right" to reach into a womb and take the life of a child and call such barbarism a "health service", extracting federal tax dollars to commit the act. She has demonstrated her posture on the myriad of other issues related to this unjust law in her governance at the State level.
Where are the Pro-Life Catholics in either Party? Sadly, we have witnessed the growth of a phenomenon I have called in the past "Anti-Catholic Catholics". They must be exposed, opposed and replaced. It is time for a new Catholic Action.
With this delay in the vote, it is time for all Catholics, other Christians, other people of good faith and all people of good will to act. We know the objective truth that the child in the womb is our neighbor and that every procured abortion constitutes the killing of our neighbor. We need to make our absolute disapproval of the confirmation of Governor Kathleen Sebelius to the position of Secretary of Health and Human Services clear to our elected representatives during their two week recess.
