We ask you, urgently: don’t scroll past this

Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.

ATLANTA, Ga. (Catholic Online) - As the candidates continue to emerge in this ever evolving election, it becomes increasingly clear that this is an election of contrasts.

It is the wisdom of experience versus the impetuousness of a novice. It is a humility that can only come from a gentle confidence versus a brute arrogance that stems from pride. It is the tried and true versus a novel trendiness. It is an erring on the side of caution versus simply erring. Ultimately, in the simplest of terms, it is a battle between good versus evil.

Part of the evil comes from avoiding the word evil altogether and using subtle, nuanced language to justify heinous and inexplicable decisions. However, there is no justification, no matter how sophisticated or reasoned, that can ever explain Mr. Obama's decision to sanction the murder of babies born alive after being aborted. This is an act so vile that it literally makes me physically sick.

If his argument is that he confused the bill with something else and did not really mean to take this extreme position, then that is inexcusable. How could the American people put their trust in someone who makes an "oops" so monumental that the consequences are death to innocent and defenseless fellow citizens?

If he argues that he supports the Baby Born Alive Act and wants to protect unplanned babies from murder, how will that sit with his base of liberal fascists? Finally, if he indeed defends his position on infanticide and believes it is morally acceptable in certain circumstances, how could any American support this monster?

Contrast the ambiguous remarks of Mr. Obama during the recent Saddleback Church forum to the utterly direct response of Mr. McCain to the question of when babies are entitled to human rights. Without a pause or moment of hesitation, McCain un-debatably answered it was at the moment of conception.

Obama offended all Americans on both sides of the debate with his meaningless and cocky response that the answer to that question was above his pay grade. Give us a break, Mr. Obama, we are not as dumb as you give us credit for! We get it that you are pro-abortion and we might even respect you more if you would just come out and say it, because then a true dialogue may begin. But dialogue and honest debate take courage and truth, something Mr. Obama has yet to display.

Make no mistake. The stakes in the election are of biblical proportion and will profoundly impact our world as we know it. Common sense, steering clear of rhetoric and emotion, must prevail here. When all else fails, go back to the basics. In this case, let's go back to the nursery where we first heard the story of the Emperor's New Clothes. In this election, the lines are unmistakably drawn and it is ever more apparent that the Emperor is not wearing any clothes.
