WASHINGTON, DC (Catholic Online) - With the polls now closed, Senator Hillary Clinton has won a decisive victory against Senator Barack Obama in the Kentucky Democratic Primary.
Later this evening, it is expected that Senator Obama will win a similarly decisive victory in Oregon's Primary against Hillary Clinton. This may place the Senator from Illinois within reach of having obtained a majority of the Democratic Parties elected delegates.
The Senator from New York, having defeated Obama by a large margin, showed her tenacity in comments made after NBC, called the election, vowing to fight on "even in the face of some pretty tough odds."
She told her ecstatic supporters who gathered in Louisville "This is one of the closest races for a party's nominations in modern history... We're winning the popular vote, and I'm more determined than ever to see that every vote is cast and every ballot is counted." This an obvious reference to the looming battle over the Florida and Michigan contests.
As has been the norm in this hotly contested campaign, Clinton spokespersons parsed this decisive victory contending that it reveals the candidates strengths among "working class' white voters.
Terry McAuliffe, Senator Clinton's Campaign Chair, told MSNBC's Chris Matthews that Clinton could even win back large Ohio and Pennsylvania for the Democratic Party.
Puerto Rico holds its Primary on June 1. South Dakota and Montana on June 3.
The Democratic party Rules Committee is expected to determine how to handle the contested efforts to seat Michigan and Florida delegates on May 31.
