Planned Parenthood's recently published report for the fiscal year 2022-2023, under the title "Above & Beyond," has revealed distressing statistics, particularly concerning the organization's highest-ever number of abortions following the repeal of Roe v. Wade. Within the specified period from October 1, 2021, to September 30, 2022, Planned Parenthood conducted a staggering 392,715 abortions, marking an alarming increase of 5% compared to the previous year.

Normally, information put out by Planned Parenthood and other associated organizations cannot always be taken at face value and believed./ However, this data was analyzed by the faith-based law firm Liberty Counsel. It unveils the grim reality that Planned Parenthood terminated an average of 1,075 innocent lives every day, equating to 44 lives per hour. Mat Staver, founder of Liberty Counsel, lamented that despite the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade in 2022, Planned Parenthood remains steadfast in prioritizing profit over the sanctity of life.
The report also sheds light on the surge in demand for abortions in states where such procedures are legally protected, with an astonishing 700% increase noted. Moreover, Planned Parenthood's involvement in coordinating over 33,000 abortions, including referrals and travel arrangements, underscores its unwavering commitment to perpetuating this grave injustice.
While the number of abortions reached a decade-high, other essential services provided by Planned Parenthood, such as cancer screenings, prenatal care, contraceptive services, and STD prevention, continue to decline. According to the pro-life Charlotte Lozier Institute, these services have dwindled by 17% since 2010, with cancer screenings and prevention services plummeting by a staggering 71%.
Furthermore, the disproportionate ratio of abortions to adoption referrals, with 228 abortions for every adoption referral, is deeply troubling. This imbalance reflects Planned Parenthood's skewed priorities and disregard for life-affirming alternatives.
Financial data disclosed in the report revealed a substantial revenue increase for Planned Parenthood in 2023, amounting to nearly $2.1 billion, a significant portion of which derived from taxpayer-funded government grants, contracts, and Medicaid reimbursements totaling $699.3 million. This underscores the urgent need to reassess the allocation of public funds and prioritize organizations that genuinely prioritize holistic healthcare.
In response to these alarming revelations, prominent pro-life advocates have condemned Planned Parenthood's relentless focus on abortion over comprehensive healthcare. Lila Rose, founder of Live Action, decried the organization's callous disregard for human life and called for immediate defunding and closure of Planned Parenthood facilities.
Michael New of the Charlotte Lozier Institute emphasized the importance of these findings in the ongoing efforts to defund Planned Parenthood at both state and federal levels. The report's disturbing title, "Above and Beyond," serves as a grim reminder of Planned Parenthood's commitment to expanding abortion services at the expense of women's well-being and the sanctity of human life.
The surge in Planned Parenthood's abortion rates following the repeal of Roe v. Wade underscores the urgent need for steadfast advocacy in defense of life. As Catholics, it is our moral obligation to stand against the culture of death perpetuated by organizations like Planned Parenthood and to tirelessly promote a culture of life rooted in respect for human dignity from conception to natural death.
