'We're trusting in God, that he will help us and guide us to make the right decision, to have something better come out of this.'

Americans are building safe spaces to hide illegal immigrants in their homes. "Hosts" expect to shelter hundreds - even thousands - of immigrants across Southern California from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Many U.S. citizens believe they can rely on their Fourth Amendment right to keep ICE from entering, searching or seizing anyone in their home.

Under normal circumstances, yes, citizens are safe from random searches or seizures but if ICE receives enough evidence for reasonable cause, they may obtain a warrant and enter, search and seize people from homes owned by U.S. citizens.

One man, who requested anonymity, told CNN he plans to house illegal immigrants in his spare bedroom. He has considered his rights and often thinks of how he will handle a future visit from ICE.

"I definitely won't let them in," he said. "That's our legal right. If they have a warrant, then they can come in. I can imagine that could be scary, but I feel the consequences of being passive in this moment is a little scary."

Many are choosing to side with Pope Francis, who has repeatedly said Christians are called to respond to humanitarian crises around the world. He claims illegal immigrants are often fleeing wars, gangs, violence and worse in their home countries.

"We cannot deny the humanitarian crisis which in recent years has meant the migration of thousands of people," His Holiness stated during a homily last week. "The human tragedy that is forced migration is a global phenomenon today.

"This crisis, which can be measured in numbers and statistics, we want instead to measure with names, stories, families."

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump and his supporters choose to stand on the side of the law.

U.S. President Donald Trump says illegal immigrants are just that - illegal, so they must leave.

Regardless of reason, illegal immigrants are breaking the law the moment they enter the United States without documentation.

Not all illegal immigrants are attempting to flee gang violence. Some are perpetrating it in the United States.

In an immigration speech on February 23, Trump explained the deportation of illegal immigrants is helping the United states get "really bad dudes out of this country."

According to Pew Research, there were 11.1 million unauthorized immigrants in the United States in 2014. Illegal Mexicans made up of 52 percent of all unauthorized immigrants.

On an economic level, illegal immigrants really are taking jobs from U.S. citizens. They may be low-skill positions but they are jobs meant for citizens nonetheless.

The debate between protecting and deporting illegals continues as Americans in Southern California complete preparations to house undocumented immigrants.

Mark Krikorian, the executive director of the conservative Center for Immigration Studies, explained: "They're committing a felony. Harboring is a felony. Regular folks hiding people in a basement face jail time because it is ultimately a smuggling conspiracy."

Reverend Zach Hoover, the executive director of the interfaith community organization LA Voice, stated: "The God that I worship sent a person to earth in the name of Jesus who did not always get along with the authorities. I feel really convicted that I answer to God at the end of the day. That's who I'm going to see when I die."
