Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.Help Now >

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Chief of Police Kevin Lands stands beside the woman's vehicle as Officer Brian Warner approaches the driver's-side window.
The look of concern is clear on her face as he listens to Officer Warner introducing himself. When he asked, "Are you aware of why I pulled you over today?" she responded with a very nervous, "No ma'a- I mean, no sir, sorry."
In the passenger seat, a younger boy is seen leaning back in his seat, his hands resting on his thighs. Whether her nervousness and his hand placement are indicative of fear or general nervousness by being pulled over is uncertain.
Officer Warner asked, "Are you familiar with vehicle code 1.7.3.9?"
She shook her head and said, "no."
"Well," Officer Warner continued, "It's actually against the law to drive on a hot day without an ice cream cone."
The woman immediately broke into laughter and said, "Oh my god. I was like -oh my god."
Officer Warner grabbed two Drumstick ice creams from Chief Lands and explained: "So on behalf of the Halifax Police Department, we're just making sure everybody is following all the laws today and are driving with ice cream."
The woman, still breaking out with laughter, was obviously relieved at the sudden generosity of the police department.
Chief Lands posted the video to his Facebook page, where it quickly went viral.
When asked why he carried out the stunt, Chief Lands told WTVR he simply "wanted to try and put some smiles on people's faces."
One comment on the video, made by Linda Baxter, sums the situation up perfectly: "This is powerful - you can see the anxiety in the poor woman and the huge relief in her laughter afterwards - this is just one example of how the fractured relationships can heal!"
