LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) - CIA Director, John Brennan has said that ISIS may seek to carry out a similar attack in the United States.
"I'd be surprised if [ISIS] is not trying to carry out that kind of attack in the United States," Brennan told Yahoo News.
ISIS carried out a bombing attack on the airport in Istanbul, killing 50 people. Hundreds more were injured. The terror organization has claimed responsibility.
The attack is similar to another attack the organization staged at the airport in Brussels, Belgium.
In both cases, suicide bombers detonated explosives as soon as they were around travelers. The choice of the airport was likely to ensure victims would be from around the world.
Brennan told Yahoo that he is worried ISIS wants to kill as many people as possible around the world. Attacks in the U.S. could be staged that would echo what happened in Paris. Or Brussels and Istanbul.
It remains a mystery why ISIS has not been able to stage an attack against the U.S.. Two terror attacks, one in San Bernardino, California and another in Orlando, Florida were inspired by ISIS, but not organized by the terrorists. There is no evidence that ISIS commanders directly ordered either attack.
Still, ISIS could be sending terrorists to the United States. They may enter as illegal aliens, or as refugees. There is a small chance some could enter the country on a visa. Still others could be citizens recruited from the United States.
Most officials fear that an ISIS-sponsored attack on U.S. soil is inevitable.
