LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - "I immediately noticed the head had been chopped off and as I got closer the hands had been broken off," Father Silva of Saint Margaret's Church explained to CBS Boston, noting that two other statues were also vandalized.

"The initial feeling was things have been violated in many ways, certainly from a religious and spiritual perspective."

The church's parishioners were shocked and heartbroken to learn about the destructive acts.

"It's sad, disgraceful, disrespectful people who have no faith or no morals to do something like that," expressed Rick Abreu to CBS Boston.

According to reports, police are currently investigating the vandalism but have very little clues.

"This is a deeply disturbing crime committed against a religious institution in our community during a major holiday season," Burlington's Police Chief Kent said in a statement issued Tuesday, according to The Burlington Patch. "We will undertake a thorough investigation and use all assets at our disposal to find those responsible and hold them accountable."

A separate act of extreme vandalism on a Mary statue occurred days before this incident, about 30 miles away in Norwood, MA, but investigators believe there is no direct link between the two cases.

"Obviously, this type of act is particularly disturbing given the timing and the statue that was damaged," expressed Norwood Police Chief William Brooks.

The Burlington church has stated they will fix all the damage and forgive the wrongdoers, however, they are still left in disbelief and do not condone the behavior.

"We are on a high this Easter season," Father Silva said. "To have something like this happen hits you right in the gut."

The Burlington Police is asking anyone with information to come forward and call, (781)-271-1212.

Religion continues to be under attack and now, instead of words against words, the nonbelievers are going after our heart and souls by destroying precious artwork.

With Christian genocide officially recognized, we can hope things will improve, but any realist can see there is a lot of work that needs to be done before we reach feeling secure in openly practicing our religion in today's society.

Come together as one - one voice, one church. Together let's pray for a better tomorrow where our children don't have to fear persecution over religion.
