LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - "I'm gonna ask that there is a reverence in the house here because God is in the house. God wants to do something so I'm gonna pray..."

Pastor Remington began a prayer for Ted Cruz during a campaign rally in Idaho less than 24 hours before he was gunned down in the parking lot of his church.

According to CNN, Remington was discovered at 2 p.m. beside the Alter Church in Coeur d'Alene.

The shooting was recorded by one of the church's security cameras and John Padula, the outreach pastor at Altar Church, reported the suspect attended the morning service then "kind of wandered around." He went outside and sat in his car for roughly ten minutes until Remington left the church.

As pastor Remington reached his vehicle and opened the door, the shooter approached him from behind "and just started shooting him in the back. It didn't look like the first time he had shot. He stood pretty professional as he was shooting."

Detective Jared Reneau of the Coer d'Alene Police Department stated Remington was rushed to the hospital, where he underwent immediate surgery.

Padula spoke with Remington's doctors and told The Spokesman-Review that the pastor was "absolutely fine."

Roy Crigger, a member of the Alter Church, praised God for giving the pastor life. "One of the bullets tried to enter the brain but stopped at the skull. ...He is and will continue to be alive and serving God!" he wrote to a social media site.

"He did not deserve this, I don't get this" May Traverso, another church attendee, said after describing the pastor as "tirelessly devoted, self-sacrificing, loving."

As the attack came only a day after Remington delivered a prayer at Ted Cruz's rally, some suspect the attack was politically motivated, but detective Reneau reported the police have not jumped to that conclusion.

The only current suspect is 30-year-old Kyle Andrew Odom, who is reported to be 6-feet-tall, 170 pounds and has blonde hair and blue eyes.

Authorities assume Odom is armed and dangerous and are currently working to obtain an arrest warrant.
