LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - UPDATE - Fourteen people have been killed and 17 are reportedly injured.
Following a car chase on Wednesday, two suspects have been killed. One suspect has been detained, though authorities report the person may not be connected to the shooting.
UPDATE- Though it is currently unclear whether it is related to the shooting, San Bernardino authorities engaged in a brief shootout with suspects in a dark sports utility vehicle, resulting in one downed suspect.
UPDATE - Fourteen casualties and a minimum of 14 people have been wounded in the wake of the mass shooting, which is believed to have been conducted by three armed suspects.
The suspects were dressed in ski masks and military gear, armed with AK-47s and they left a bomb behind, which the bomb squad detonated with a robot.
The FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were dispatched to the scene as well.
The shooting is believed to have started in a cluster of office buildings, including Inland Regional Services, which offers a variety of services to developmentally disabled people.
Police led frightened people from the buildings to the San Bernardino Golf Club.
As police searched for survivors to lead to safety, relatives who heard from loved ones were rushing to the offices.
NBC reporter Tony Shin spoke to a man whose daughter sent the text, "Dad, somebody is shooting inside our building. I'm hiding in a closet ... I'm scared."
Another man told CNN his daughter sent the message "Shooting at my work. People shot. In the office waiting for cops. Pray for us."
The San Bernardino County Sheriff's office took to Twitter to release the statement "@SanBernardinoPD has confirmed an active shooter in the area of Orange Show Rd/Waterman Ave near Park center. #SBCSD assisting."
Witnesses told authorities they saw three men with long rifles who escaped in a black SUV.
The bomb squad reported a package on the second floor of a building that was deemed "not normal" and they plan to use a robot to handle the opening or possible disabling of any devices they discover.
SWAT was reported to be moving methodically through the many buildings in the area while Loma Linda University Medical Center is accepting patients.
There are currently no numbers indicating how many people were at the Inland Regional Center at the time of the shooting, while the Center's Facebook claims to have 670 employees between San Bernardino and its Riverside facilities, which provide services to over 30,200 people.
