HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA (Catholic Online) - Donald Trump is making headlines as he publicly rejected Pope Francis' call for compassion for immigrants and refugees entering the United States. In a recent interview with CNN, Trump claims the U.S. cannot afford to take any more of the immigrants the Pope wants the U.S. to absorb.

"We can't afford" it, Donald Trump affirmed. He continued explaining, "His words are beautiful and I respect the Pope" but the United States "has more practical fish to fry."

Pope Francis also expressed his plea to the U.S. to fight global warming. However, Donald Trump stated that acting alone, without other nations like China, in fighting against global warming would just "destroy our country" economically.

"When the stranger in our midst appeals to us, we must not repeat the sins and the errors of the past," Pope Francis said Thursday in his address to a Joint Session of Congress. A day earlier at the White House, he urged Americans to "not be afraid to welcome" immigrants.

Trump countered, "We have a country that is going through tremendous problems. We owe $19 trillion. So number one, we can't afford this process."

Donald Trump has been very vocal against immigrants staying in and fleeing to the U.S. He even pledged to build a wall on the southern border of the U.S. to prevent illegal immigrants from coming through, to deport millions of illegal immigrants from the U.S. and to implement a tough testing process for immigrants who are determined to come back.
