We ask you, urgently: don’t scroll past this

Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.

25 items banned from all papal events

In preparation of Pope Francis' visit to New York City Sept. 24-26 for the "World Meeting of Families," federal and city officials have started to implement extensive security measures.

Highlights

MUNTINLUPA, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online) - In preparation for Pope Francis' visit to New York City, federal and city officials plan to screen checkpoints, implement no-fly zones and more.

Fox5ny reported the Pope's visit will be considered a National Special Security Event, with the Secret Service orchestrating all upcoming papal events.

In addition to the ongoing screenings, checkpoints and no-fly zones, there would also be the banning of balloons, selfie sticks and backpacks from all papal events.

Security personnel will be setting up checkpoints along the route of the Pope's motorcade and those who have secured tickets to papal events will also have to undergo airport-style security checks.

A list of 25 banned items includes weapons, glass and metal bottles, signs larger than 5'3", hard coolers, laser pointers, drones, aerosols, animals other than service animals and more.

Fifth Avenue and Central Park are two of the designated areas where the motorcade viewers are required to enter. Police and security officials stated they are expecting long lines during these events.

Pope Francis is set to address U.N officials, attend a service at the 9/11 memorial and engage in a procession through Central Park. He will also visit a local school and will officiate a mass at Madison Square Garden.

New York Police Commissioner William Bratton said the Pope's habit of going "off-script" and mingling with the crowd will pose a challenge to local law enforcement.

The Federal Aviation Administration also enforced a no-fly zone in Manhattan and in Queens. Officials stated there would be enhanced security along the waterways surrounding the city.
