MUNTINLUPA, PHILIPPINES - The four fallen marines killed in the massacre have been identified as 21-year-old Lance Cpl. Skip Wells, 40-year-old Gunnery Sgt. Thomas J. Sullivan, 27-year-old Sgt. Carson Holmquist and 37-year-old Staff Sgt. David Wyatt.
On July 17, the bodies of the fallen Marines were taken from Chattanooga to Dover Air Force Base in Delaware in a police procession.
The ruthless shooting that killed the four Marines began before 11 a.m. on July 16, when Abdulazeez, pulled up to a strip mall in Chattanooga and started shooting through the glass windows of a military recruitment office from the driver's seat of a silver convertible.
The shootings ended when police officers intervened. The gunman allegedly ran the rented sports car into the gate, attempting to flee, before he was shot dead by an officer.
Abdulazeez was gunned down in a hail of bullets after a short chase away from the crash scene.
It was later discovered that Abdulazeez, a practicing Muslim, was a naturalized U.S. citizen, born in Kuwait, who moved to America with his family way back in 1996. His motives for the attack are still a mystery to authorities. However, several blog posts written by Abdulazeez, uploaded three days prior to the shooting spree, may suggest that he became radicalized in his Islamic faith.
In the puzzling posts, the gunman wrote: "Brothers and sisters don't be fooled by your desires, this life is short and bitter and the opportunity to submit to allah may pass you by."
President Obama advised the Department of Defense officials at bases around the country to stay "vigilant," resulting into stricter security in cities across the country.
