MUNTINLUPA, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online) - Witnesses were shocked by the marquee, which can be seen Sundays right ]outside Taylor Road Baptist Church in Chesapeake, Virginia. Some were so stunned, they had to look twice.
"When I drove by it, I wasn't sure I read it right. So I did a U-turn," said Terri Young, who admitted that she became mad after she read the marquee.
Additionally, the sign has also stirred confusion. Some reports claim many locals are uncertain whether the Church's message is intended to spread a statement about gay rights, women rights or perhaps other related matters.
To clear this up, Pastor Mel Kunkle, explained that the message was not intended to affect a specific group. The Pastor explained that the Church's marquee was just a reference about Satan's endeavor to achieve equal position with God.
Pastor Kunkle refused to be quoted and chose not to discuss further into the specifics.
While Pastor Kunkle noted that the sign was meant to encourage people to think, Young still questioned what kind of meaning the message might be relaying to youth who may see it.
"I mean, what is that teaching children then? It's not okay to ask for equal rights?" Young asked. "If you do, and someone else thinks you shouldn't have them.. Than you're equal Satan? I don't get it."
The marquee also pays a reference to Isaiah 14:12-17.
An excerpt from the Bible verses reads: "How you have fallen from heaven, morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations!"
