Lack of water outside brings the rodents inside.

Rodents are being forced to forage into houses and residences for water to survive during the high temperature in California causing an extreme drought. The rats are going through various lengths and pushing themselves into small holes just to get some food and water. Through CBS, a pest control specialist gave out tips on how to keep our houses safe from their infestation, especially since it is still their breeding season.

He also suggests that people protect the areas rodents are attracted to. He also warns to not underestimate what rats can do.

Keep a rosary always within your reach. Find the perfect rosaries for home, work and parish.

"Those rodents will climb right up. They're excellent climbers and they will climb right up the trees and drop down on the roof," Carpenter said, suggesting low-hanging trees be trimmed for precaution.

Even tiny holes should be sealed to prevent them from making their way in to the house. Pet food and water should also be brought inside the house at night to keep rats from targeting the place.

Officials from the state wildlife recommend these preventative practices rather than using poisons that could also harm owls and hawks after feeding on the rodents. These techniques will allow the rodent population control to help as part of the wildlife surrounding these places.

Rodents are also targeting dog parks, having plants and amenities like water bowls that help them survive. They are also observed to be going to horse stables for water.r.
