LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Nickolay Lamm made a doll he named Lammily, who is what Barbie would look like if she was proportional to an average 19-year-old American woman, and staying with averages, had brown hair.
Help provide kids with the quality learning tools they need.
This new "normal Barbie" also comes with a sticker pack which included cellulite, acne, scars, bruises, moles and even stretchmarks.
When presented to a group of second graders, the new doll was much preferred to Mattel's Barbie, the former queen of the doll industry.
Some of the kids said that if Lammily worked she would likely be a "teacher," while Barbie would be more like a "model."
Lamm also made a video which shows the transformation of Lammily into a typical Barbie-like doll in order to show just how unrealistic Barbie's proportions are-including her small waist, oversized cleavage and tiny head and feet.
"I wanted to show that reality is cool," said Lamm during an interview with Time. "And a lot of toys make kids go into fantasy, but why don't they show real life is cool? It's not perfect, but it's really all we have. And that's awesome."
Lamm began his project in July, 2013. He crowd funded to reach a goal of $95,000, but instead took in over $501,000.
"Parents and their kids were emailing and asking where they could buy the 'normal Barbie' - but they didn't exist," he said.
"To be honest, I knew it was either going to bomb or blow up, there was no in between," he continued. "People were saying this whole project was a joke from the beginning, so I have no doubt some people will take it as a joke.
"But I hope there are enough people who believe what I believe."
