Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.Help Now >
Are terrorists invading the US through the open border with Mexico?
FREE Catholic Classes
Americans are worried that the Islamic State will soon conduct terror attacks within the U.S., inserting agents via the porous border between the states and Mexico. At least one sheriff has told the media he received an official alert while the federal government is working to downplay the threat as simply rumors.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - It remains unclear if the Islamic State has agents or cells ready to cross into the United States from Mexico. Judicial Watch has reported that several law enforcement agencies tasked with border protection have been warned that an Islamic State terror cell was already operating in Juarez, Mexico across the river from El Paso, Texas. Judicial Watch has even claimed that a terror attack on the border was imminent.
That warning was last August, however three weeks later, nothing has materialized. The administration is accusing conservatives, especially Republicans, of using fear of the Islamic State to alarm people over Obama's lax border control policies.

It is a fact that the border is porous. Under Obama administration policy, illegals who are intercepted are issued a court summons and released back into the states. Terrorists who can survive the cursory scrutiny will simply be freed without any effort to track them and they will be able to operate with impunity. A disguised terrorist armed with a knowledge of basic Spanish and false identification could easily pass such review.
Threats include car bombings, which would have serious impacts in the months to come as Americans gear up for the holiday shopping season.
However, the government is adamant that there are no credible threats from the Islamic State in the United States.
This may be true, but nobody saw a credible threat on December 6, 1941, or on September 10, 2001 either.
The Islamic State is boasting recruits from around the world, including some Americans and a significant number of Europeans. With tighter controls in place to prevent people from traveling overseas to join the terrorists, it is likely that many will stay in their home countries instead of risking the passage. Those who remain at home, but sympathize with the Islamic State, may be inspired to conduct "lone wolf" attacks on domestic targets. Virtually every terrorist attack in the United States has been of this variety.
It is impossible to defend against all these efforts. Even with intrusive spying from the all-seeing NSA and other federal agencies, there is no evidence they have ever stopped a domestic threat from jihadists. Where there's a will, there's a way. The government could enforce the border, which would be a great start, but there's no substitute for the vigilance and the preparedness of each law-abiding citizen to resist in the face of a clear and present danger to our republic.
