Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.Help Now >

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - According to Asia News, the United Nations has updated the "final offensive" against the Islamic State in Fallujah.
The city was taken by the terrorist group in 2014 and has since made headlines for the brutal mistreatment of its citizens.
As the Iraqi military continues to fight for Fallujah, reports of civilians used as human shields and killed in the crossfire continue to stream in.
Jan Egeland, the secretary general of the Nowegian Refugee Council, which has been protecting displaced families from Fallujah, explained the militants claim they will "fight to the death." Unfortunately, that includes the deaths of the civilians.
Egeland called the situation a "humanitarian catastrophe" while the UN claimed to receive "credible information" concerning ISIS' orders for families to stand in public squares to serve as an extra layer of protection for the jihads.
The families were told they "are not authorized" to flee "these places of assembly" and are burned or executed when they disobey.
Egeland added the families had no "ways of salvation" and the warring parties should "ensure a safe exit route, before it's too late."
A report from Tuesday's battle described government soldiers' fight with ISIS. The terrorist group forced the Iraqi military to stop their advancement to launch a series of counter-attacks.
Meanwhile, the United Nations appealed to the Baghdad government to "slow down" to help families "trapped" by the operations to escape to safer areas.
The once prosperous city of 300,000 citizens has since fallen to unknown numbers as tens of thousands have succumbed to the war, ISIS cruelty and starvation.
