LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) - Ahmad Karimpour, an adviser to the Republican Guards al-Quds elite unit, has told the Fars News Agency that they can strike Israel within eight minutes if so ordered.

"If the Supreme Leader's orders [are] to be executed, with the abilities and the equipment at our disposal, we will raze the Zionist regime in less than eight minutes," the adviser said.

Iran has recently concluded a treaty with the United States that allows the lifting of sanctions in exchange for the promise not to develop a nuclear weapon. Since then, Iran has continued developing its own weapons including a ballistic missile that can reach Israel with near-perfect accuracy.

Such weapons, if armed with nuclear warheads, could easily devastate Israel within minutes.

Israel has called on the United States and other allies to work harder to halt Iran's nuclear program, but no nation seems willing to take on Iran. While the U.S. and European allies have convinced Iran to halt their nuclear program, there is no guarantee it has been truly discontinued.

Iran's neighbor Pakistan has nuclear weapons, as well as India, the chief rival of Pakistan. Iran has ambitions of becoming the region's dominant superpower and a nuclear weapon would help achieve that goal.

Meanwhile, Iranian leadership has pledged to wipe Israel off the map. The Islamic Republic's Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, has said he hopes Israel will not exist in another 25 years, "God willing."
