LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Though the response seems bizarre, it's exactly what one hacker, or hacker group, did to exactly 49,611,709 Turkish citizens - including Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan.
Details on each of the citizens was made available as a 6.6GB download in uncompressed files on a website that reads: "Who would have imagined that backwards ideologies, cronyism and rising religious extremism in Turkey would lead to a crumbling and vulnerable technical infrastructure?"
The private information available for each citizen includes:- National Identifier (TC Kimlik No)
- First Name
- Last Name
- Mother's First Name
- Father's First Name
- Gender
- City of Birth
- Date of Birth
- ID Registration City and District
- Full Address
"Lesson to learn for Turkey:
- Bit shifting isn't encryption.
- Index your database. We had to fix your sloppy DB work.
- Putting a hardcoded password on the UI hardly does anything for security.
- Do something about Erdogan! He is destroying your country beyond recognition.
Some claim the information is a decrypted version of old 2008 records while other say it "contains data of Turkish cityizens voted in 2009 Elections."
Regardless of what the file holds, the Turkish government has yet to provide a comment.
