Why won't Obama call extermination of Middle East Christians a genocide?

A Chaldean Catholic priest has asked the U.S. State Department to characterize ISIS' treatment of Christians in the Middle East as a genocide. Father Douglas Bazi spoke to journalists at the National Press Club to call for recognition that Christians in the Middle East are being systematically exterminated.

LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) - Chaldean Catholic priest, Father Douglas Bazi, addressed the National Press Club, asking that the U.S. State Department recognize that ISIS is committing genocide against Christians in the Middle East.
Bazi, who is from Erbil, Iraq, was himself tortured by ISIS terrorists. "I was kidnapped for nine days. They used the hammer to broke my teeth, my nose, and my back," he told the reporters. He shared how he survived a terror bombing, the destruction of his church, and being shot in the leg.
"There is no life in Iraq for my people," he lamented.
Father Bazi explained that most Christians are either dead or have fled the region. Many ancient Christian communities have been entirely exterminated. Christians remain favorite targets of ISIS terrorists.
The United States can help save Christians in the Middle East, but the Obama administration has shown little desire to do so. "I'm here to tell you that my people, they feel that we are forgotten and we are alone," Father Bazi explained.
At current rates, Christians in the Middle East will be entirely eradicated, both from ISIS territory as well as from neighboring territories where Christians are routinely persecuted by both terrorists and civil authorities.
