LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Apparently, escaped Yazidi sex slaves take up arms and prepare to exact revenge.
The "Force of the Sun Ladies" is an all-female battalion composed of former sex slaves, escapees, widows, minorities and more.
Fox News reported the group's name reflects the East's reverence for the sun.
Captain Khatoon Khider reported the group's base is located in Duhok, Iraq and explained: "Now we are defending ourselves from the evil; we are defending all the minorities in the region. We will do whatever is asked of us.
Khider recalled ISIS' slaughter of thousands, saying, "Women were throwing their children from the mountains and then jumping themselves because it was a faster way to die. Our hands were all tied. We couldn't do anything about it. Whenever a war wages, our women end up as the victims."
Khider was abducted by the terrorist organization and escaped during a coalition air strike at Mount Sinjar.
Later, with no experience in weaponry or combat, Khider proposed an all-female Yazidi force to allow women to protect themselves and inspire other minorities to take a stand."Our elite force is a model for other women in the region," Khider told Fox News. "We want to thank all the other countries who help us in this difficult time, we want everyone to take up weapons and know how to protect themselves from the evil."
So far the Force of the Sun Ladies has experience with supporting the Peshmerga by engaging in direct combat and later clearing cities of explosives. Each of the group's members is aware that the battle to retake Mosul is imminent.
"We have a lot of our women in Mosul being held as slaves," Khider admitted. "Their families are waiting for them. We are waiting for them. The liberation might help bring them home."
A 19-year-old member of the Force of the Sun Ladies, Mesa, stated, "It's important to us to be able to protect our dignity and honor. My family is very proud; they encouraged me to join. I'm very proud to protect my people. And after all that has happened to us Yazidis, we are no longer afraid."
Unfortunately, the Sun Ladies may come face-to-face with Yazidi boys who were kidnapped from Mount Sinjar to be drugged and brainwashed. As Mosul is attacked, the Sun Ladies may be forced to fight their sons, brothers or nephews.
"Now there will be terrorist Yazidis, something that never used to be," Khidar lamented. "But we have many missions left. We will do whatever is needed."
