LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Footage of subterranean ISIS prisons has been released by Sky TV, who learned the cells were used to house captive Yazidi women.
It is currently unclear how long the women were expected to live in the cells or what happened to them once they were removed. All that remains are a few bits of rubble and heartbreaking images believed to have been drawn by the captives. The images reveal what may have been the women's lives may have been like prior to ISIS' takeover. One image depicts a large home and driveway lined with trees, with animals and a car parked outside.
United Nations human rights chief Navi Pillay said, "Grave, horrific human rights violations are being committed daily by ISIL and associated armed groups." He went on to cite targeted killings, abductions, sex crimes, forced recruitment and more."They are systematically targeted men, women and children based on their ethnic, religious or sectarian affiliation and are ruthlessly carrying out widespread ethnic and religious cleansing in the areas under their control," he added.
Evidence of ISIS cruelty can be found in the < a href=https://www.catholic.org/news/international/middle_east/story.php?id=65367>mass graves across on the country, survivor stories and what few images and stories humanitarian groups are able to smuggle from ISIS-owned lands.
