Little girl looking Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you. Help Now >

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Twenty-one-year-old militia commander, who goes by the name Tehelden, meaning "revenge" in Kurdish, said ISIS fighters fear facing women on the battlefield.

"They think they're fighting in the name of Islam," she said. "They believe if someone from Daesh [ISIS] is killed by a girl, a Kurdish girl, they won't go to heaven. They're afraid of girls."

Tehelden leads the all-female militia called the Women's Protection Unit (YPJ), which is a branch of the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) who fights ISIS in Kurdish areas of Syria and Iraq.

The group does not fear ISIS, and 20-year-old Efelin laughed when CNN's Benjamin Wedeman asked if Jihadists ever attempted to reclaim Al-Houl.

"If they do, we won't leave one of them alive," one girl responded.

The YPJ is stationed in Al-Houl, which is in northeast Syria, and the group comprises 20 percent of the YPG. Most of the women are Kurdish and are in their early twenties.

While the YPJ continues to grow in woman-power, ISIS released images of their hi-tech arsenal looted from the Iraqi army. The images include handheld rocket launchers, automatic weapons and front line tanks.
