WWIII BREWS IN SYRIA - Obama declares proxy war on Russia in Syria
FREE Catholic Classes
Several Washington sources are reporting that U.S. Special Forces will soon be sent into Syria to assist in training rebels. The move will be both controversial and dangerous and could result in U.S. troops engaging Russian forces in combat.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - A proxy war is brewing in Syria and the Obama Administration has put the military on a direct path to conflict with Russian forces. The White House is expected to announce shortly, the ordering of U.S. Special Forces to Syria to train rebels there. This is a massive escalation.
Although the CIA was tasked with training Syrian rebels over a year ago, the mission cost millions of dollars and only produced a few trained soldiers. The return on that investment is virtually criminal in nature, and it hints at extreme ineptitude.
However, the dispatch of Special Forces troops will be more closely monitored and should produce a better outcome, in the form of better trained, and better equipped rebel soldiers. However, the Russians have recently entered the conflict in Syria on the side of the Assad regime and this move will put the United States on a path to direct military conflict with Russia.
Russian ground forces are already believed to be operating in Syria. Russian aviation assets are conducting airstrikes on a daily basis, although a deal has been worked out to allow both sides to bomb Islamic State assets without endangering the planes or their pilots.
Although American troops ostensibly won't be engaging in combat, we recently learned that Special Forces advisers in Iraq are engaged in daily combat operations. There is little reason to assume Syria will be different. President Obama originally assured the American people that ground forces would not enter combat in Iraq. We know today this is a lie.
Russian rhetoric and bombast is strong. The Russians have accused the U.S. of having "delusions of winning a war with Russia."
At the very least, a proxy war between the United States and Russia is needlessly brewing in Syria. At the worst, something more serious and long-term could be starting. War becomes its own thing once started and it will be impossible to control what happens once Americans and Russians find themselves on opposing sides of a battlefield.
