LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - ISIS called for a jihad against Russia and the U.S. in an audio message released last Tuesday. The Islamic State spokesman Abu Muhammad al-Adnani stated, "Oh Muslim youth everywhere come on for jihad against the Russians and Americans, because it's a crusader war against the Muslims; the war of the atheist and idolaters against the believers."

The call for arms against the globe's superpowers came a day after the al-Qaida affiliated Nusra Front called for attacks against Russia, as a response to the airstrikes the Russians have launched in Syria. Nusra leader, Abu Muhammad al-Jolani urged extremists in the Caucasus to "kill the Russians."

Al-Qaeda leader, Al-Jolani is encouraging all jihadi factions to join forces and "postpone the difference until the break of the crusader Western and Russian war on the Levant land (Syria)."

Vladimir Putin's airstrikes officially began on September 30 and targeted the positions of the Nusra Front and the Islamic State, among the other terror groups in Syria. Russia has also sent strikes against the Syrian rebels, raising ire among anti-Assad forces.

In a statement, a total of 41 rebel group including the Ahrar al-Sham Movement deemed the Russian intervention an "occupation." The rebel groups are urging regional forces in Syria to join the forces against the Russian-led group.

The Muslim Brotherhood of the Syrian wing has also issued a statement calling on Syrians to wage jihad against the Russians. They have called the incident as a "flaglant Russian occupation of Syria."

Prior to the statement encouraging an allegiance among the Muslim rebels in Syria, two mortal shells attacked the Russian Embassy compound in the Syrian capital Damascus. Supporters of the Russian airstrikes in Syria were gathered in front of the embassy during the attack. These gatherings were considered a show of "gratitude" to Moscow and the Russian intervention in the Syria war.

No casualties were reported during the attack except for property loses as reported by SANA.
