Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.

The fighter jets turned transponders off to avoid detection.

During a press conference on Thursday, Defense Secretary Ashton Carter announced Russian jet fighters had turned their transponders off when they entered Syria in an attempt to avoid being detected. The official added the fighters flew very close to a transport plane that had its working transponder on. Russia has also started to fly drones around Latakia.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - The assessment this past weekend showed 28 Russian Sukhoi fighter jets were on their way to Syria. They hid under radar signature and U.S. satellites picked each one up. The Russian Air Force has reportedly deployed at least one 11-20 Coot surveillance plane to Syria.

Russian planes that have been brought to Syria have apparently flown their first local (familiarization) sorties. It wasn't clear whether they were accompanied by Syrian planes but Israeli ISR: (intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance) assets were active all day on September 24, going round in circles between Cyprus and Lebanon alone, as tracked by ADS-B on Flight Radar 24.

Without any other ISIS fighters in the area, the Russian's intentions with their military buildup is being questioned and continues to be discreetly watched by the U.S. The fighter jets hid under radar signatures of cargo planes, and made a stopover in Iran, en route to Russia.
Instead of fighting with the terrorist group, the move points to a higher likelihood that the Russian plan is to sway Syrian President Bashar-Al-Assad.

Although the U.S. has its own plan and has begun efforts to defeat ISIS, it was also stated that Assad must go. When asked about what the U.S. can do about the situation, Carter said, "It's a matter of seeing what the Russians do."
Carter hopes that the Russians will fight ISIS but he was also quoted saying, "but it's a matter of pouring gasoline on the civil war in Syria, which is certainly not productive from our point of view."
