MUNTINLUPA, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online) - As reported by Reuters, who interviewed a Syrian military source last Thursday, the Russian "weapons are highly effective and very accurate, and hit targets precisely. We can say they are all types of weapons, be it air or ground."
The unnamed source also noted that the Syrian army had been using the weapons in their training for the past few months and were just starting to deploy them. However, the source didn't specify what weapons Syria was using, stating only there were "new types."

Last Thursday, Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem stated that Russia provided weapons and trained Syrian troops how to use them. He also said that the Assad government would be open to ask Russian troops to fight together with Syria in the fight against the Islamic State extremist group ISIS.
Russia's stand in supplying weapons and giving support to Assad's regime is their way of fighting against terrorism and preventing a complete disaster in the region. Their support also includes a massive Russian military presence, but the full scope of help they are providing Syria and their intentions for doing so, remains unknown.

U.S. officials believe Russia is only making the war worse in the region. The Pentagon's spokesperson Peter Cook condemned Russia for providing assistance to Syria, stating that Russia's actions would be "counterproductive to the ultimate solution in Syria, which we think is a political and diplomatic solution, not a military solution."
Meanwhile, the Syrian air force launched heavy air-strikes on the Islamic State-held city of Raqqa. There have been at least 18 people who were killed in the raids and several others were wounded, according to Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
U.N officials reported over 250,000 people killed so far in the Syrian civil war.
