79 percent feel the presence of foreign military made their situation worse

After asking 1,365 Syrians from all 14 governorates, UK-based ORB International found that one out of every five people prefer living under the Islamic State rule than the pre-Syrian Civil War dictatorship of Syrian president Bashar al-Assad.

While the statistic is surprising, research stated the vast majority among the respondents believed ISIS was a U.S. creation and the presence of a foreign army worsened their situation. In one statement, Assad slammed the West for "aiding terrorists."

MUNTINLUPA, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online) - Following the gruesome atrocities committed by the jihadist fighters for the Islamic State against the people of Syria, one out of 5 Syrians said they found themselves more in favor of the organization than the current regime.

According to the recent survey conducted by ORB International, more Syrians feel US airstrikes and bombings were worse than living under ISIS or Assad.

The Daily Mail reported that around 240,000 people who died during the Syrian Civil War had lost their lives by the hands of their own government. For every ISIS victim, there were 7 Syrians killed by the Assad regime between January and July this year. More and more Syrians flee the country for fear of outside government attacks, rather than terrorist attacks and threats.

22 percent of those surveyed believe ISIS has a positive influence in Syria while 82 percent believe the terror organization was created by the U.S. and its allies. They believe the creation of ISIS was to turn things around in the Middle East after the war against Al-Qaeda. Forty-nine percent are against American airstrikes in the country against the Islamic State.

At 79 percent, many of them stated they felt the situation worsened due to the participation of foreign military and 57 percent believed the crisis was actually worsening.

51 percent still believe the political solution is best and 64 percent believe there is still hope for diplomatic action to end the terrible situation.

Despite everything, 65 percent believe that one day, Syrians will all be united again and 70 percent are against the division of their nation to separate, smaller countries.

Meanwhile, Assad's first public comment amid the refugee situation in Europe included slamming the West for "supporting terrorists." He even accused Turkey of making the growth of ISIS and Al-Qaeda possible.

"As long as they follow this propaganda, they will have more refugees. If you are worried about them, stop supporting terrorists," he said during an interview by the Russian media. Assad made no mention of Russia's military participation in the Syrian civil war.
