MUNTINLUPA, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online) - What appears to be the ISIS flag has been painted on a mountainside in the town of Dawadmi, earning mixed reactions among the people. A Middle East expert suggested the black flag was painted without legal consent from the kingdom.
"At this stage, it appears to be an isolated incident. But, of course, there are Saudis in Iraq and Syria fighting with ISIS, so it is right to be concerned about support for it in the kingdom," explained the director of the Rubin Center at the Interdisciplinary Center in Herzliya, Israel and an associate at the U.S.-based Middle East Forum, Jonathan Spyer.Although the terrorist group claims to make an international caliphate, Saudi Arabia was generally spared from the gruesome brutality and atrocities the jihadists had committed against the people of Iraq and Syria before and after conquering the territories.
The Blaze reported that in July, authorities from the kingdom had arrested 431 suspected ISIS members in prevention of further plans to attack Saudi Arabia.
According to the Saudi Interior Ministry, they also suspect that the members used social media in spreading the extremist propaganda and enticing other Saudis to join the terrorist organization. The kingdom had denounced ISIS for their violence and joined forces against them.
ISIS claimed responsibility for the suicide bombing in a Shiite mosque located at eastern Saudi Arabia in May, killing at least four people.
