We ask you, urgently: don’t scroll past this
Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.Help Now >
Next Oskar Schindler: Canadian Jew pays for Christian and Yazadi girls' release from ISIS
FREE Catholic Classes
It takes a lot of compassion and courage to do what Steve Maman is doing right now, even if he considers himself far from the Holocaust hero Oskar Schindler. As most people turn off their TVs, close their eyes and ears toward the reality of the war-stricken lands in the Middle East, this Canadian Jewish businessman had no plans of doing the same or halting his rescue operations, despite a low response from people for donations. One hundred and twenty Christian and Yazidi girls have been rescued from the terror group, and there are thousands of them left to be saved.

MUNTINLUPA, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online) - "I said to myself: 'I cannot, and will not stand idle. I will not look at the daily reports and stay passive.' The price of a child's life to remove them from the hands of ISIS is between $1000-$3000. We, as avid consumers, spend that money on gadgets and tools. Why not spend that money to save a life?" wrote Maman on the GoFundMe page he has set up.
His operation, called "The Liberation of Christian and Yazidi Children of Iraq (CYCI)," was able to raise funds for 120 girls' release, through his personal efforts and his "remarkably generous" business contacts' huge donations. However, he continues to hope more people will donate for the over 2,700 children left with the terrorists.
Maman's operations were aided by Iraqi brokers, "buying" the children out of their horrifying situations. According to Maman, the children were typically kidnapped and sold as sex slaves the jihadi fighters and local men rape up to 30 times a day.
In response to those who call him the "Jewish Schindler," Maman expressed he still has a long way to go to become comparable to Oskar.
