Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.Help Now >

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Badawi co-founded the Free Saudi Liberals website.
Arrested in 2012, Badawi is set to receive his public flogging now outside the Al-Juffali mosque. Amnesty International said, "Badawi will receive 50 lashes on Friday and the rest of the sentence would be carried out over a period of 50 weeks."

"It is horrifying to think that such a vicious and cruel punishment should be imposed on someone who is guilty of nothing more than daring to create a public forum for discussion and peacefully exercising the right to freedom of expression,' said Philip Luther, Amnesty's Middle East and North Africa director in a Daily Mail article.
Badawi will receive whippings using either a whip, leather strap or a long cane.
"Sometimes the lashes are confined to the buttocks, more often it seems they are spread out from the neck to the ankles, and usually with the prisoner simply lying face down on the ground," according to corpun.com, a website that studies corporal punishment.

Badawi's lawyer Waleed Abul-Khair was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment and barred from traveling for 15 more years after his prison term. He was found guilty of "undermining the regime and officials," "inciting public opinion" and "insulting the judiciary."
Saudi Arabia strictly follows Sharia Muslim Law.
