LOS ANGELES (Catholic Online) - On May 26, 2009 President Hosni Mubarak will be meeting with President Obama to discuss the Palestinian issue.

On this day Copts from all over the United States and Canada will be holding a peaceful rally in front of the White House to send a message to Mubarak.

Over the past decade we have seen a dramatic increase in violence against Copts in Egypt. The violence has spread to major churches in Alexandria and Cairo as well as to monasteries.

Most recently, this week St. Mary's Church in Zeitun was attacked with two car bombs. President Obama needs to know there is a constituency in the US that wants him to address the issue of persecution in Egypt.

Mr. Mubarak is coming to the USA. At the top of his agenda is promoting peace between the Israelis and the Palestinians. We wholeheartedly support this noble mission.

However, we wish to remind him that charity starts at home: The Coptic minority in his country badly needs equality, justice and peace. He has made little or no effort to help the 12 million Copts persecuted in his own country.

We ask for justice and equality for Copts.

It's not OK to attack, burn, desecrate or blow up a Church in Egypt. The murdered, raped and robbed want justice and protection.
