LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Chaouqui's 10-month suspended sentence for conspiring to pass confidential documents to two journalists was obviously not enough to stop her from releasing the sensitive information.

Interestingly, throughout her trial, she always maintained her innocence.

Regardless of these claims, she insists the book is "a testament of truth" and stated: "I'm ready to defend myself in Italy with all the strength that I have. I'm not the same person who went (to the Vatican) like an obedient puppy."

The book is now available and Crux reported it offers "more of a whimper than a bang."

"In the Name of Peter" covers several instances in which the Vatican's money management was less than honest. It includes the ridiculous costs of sainthood procedures, the misuse of money at Vatican-affiliated hospitals, lavish cardinal apartments, gas and tobacco sales, the management of real estate, an under-funded pension system and more.

None of these instances are new to the public. In fact, these are reasons Pope Francis demanded reforms years ago. Crux claims Chaouqui's book reads "more like a diary than an exposé" and "it's sometimes hard to separate fact from fiction."

Regardless, "In the Name of Peter" does reveal new pieces of information. Chaouqi includes emails and previously unpublished documents alongside her personal tale of an innocent idealists who is caught in a power struggle within the Vatican, where "everything is possible, everything is permitted, and no one is innocent."
