LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Bavarian interior minister Joachim Herrman reported the suicide bomber from Syria who detonated his vest in southern Germany had pledged allegiance to ISIS before the attack.
During a news conference, Herrman stated: "A provisional translation by an interpreter shows that he expressly announces, in the name of Allah, and testifying his allegiance to (Islamic State leader) Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi ... an act of revenge against the Germans because they're getting in the way of Islam.
"I think that after this video there's no doubt that the attack was a terrorist attack with an Islamic background. ...'It's terrible ... that someone who came into our country to seek shelter has now committed such a heinous act and injured a large number of people who are at home here, some seriously.
"It's a further, horrific attack that will increase the already growing security concerns of our citizens. We must do everything possible to prevent the spread of such violence in our country by people who came here to ask for asylum."
Following the attack, which occurred outside a music festival in Ansbach, the Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack.
Citizens have called for a change to immigration rules but Federal Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere announced: "Of course I would and will initiate appropriate amendments if they are necessary or if I think they are necessary, but only then."
Apparently an increase in terror attacks isn't enough to warrant changes for de Maiziere.
Meanwhile, a 21-year-old Syrian refugee was arrested Sunday after killing a pregnant woman with a machete.
Authorities claimed the asylum-seeker slaughtered the woman and injured two other people in Reutlingen, Germany, and had been involved in other incidents resulting in injured citizens.
"Given the current evidence, there is no indication that this was a terrorist attack," a police spokesman stated.
One witness claimed, "The attacker was completely out of his mind. He even ran after a police car with his machete."
A motorist toppled the man who was then taken into police custody. He received medical treatment and was interrogated by officials.
Despite the number of weekend attacks, German officials continue to refuse to acknowledge they are linked to ISIS.
Citizens continue to place blame for the increasing violence at Chancellor Angela Merkel's feet since she implemented an open-door refugee policy - but playing the blame game changes nothing.
Meanwhile, attacks keep coming and authorities keep busy investigating.
