'The Evil': Exorcism classes forced on Spanish students

Free World Class Education

Students are expected to take a series of exorcism classes unless they have a valid excuse not to attend.

Anyone who has ever been in college knows there is a list of required classes to take before you are eligible for graduation. Some classes seem unnecessary, such as a Chemistry major forced to take art classes, but what if universities and colleges required exorcism classes for everyone?

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - According to The Local, a public college in Spain now requires its students to take a series of exorcism classes to graduate.

The University College of Barberán and Collán (Colegio Mayor Universitario Barberán y Collán) is funded by Spain's Defense Ministry, which would normally mean religious studies are not required.

Unfortunately for the students, an exorcism course is required of all who do not have a good reason to refrain from the classes.

As reported by El Dario, the theological lectures include "the fields related to the devil, exorcisms, being possessed and hell."

The seminar, titled "The Evil," will be led by Father José Antonio Fortea Cucurull, the author of "Summa dćmoniaca," a demonology text that includes an exorcism manual.

Several students have complained, but no formal complaint has been submitted.

Spain is a country rife with superstitions, ranging from cactus protection to sinning by killing a cricket.

Stories of possession and witchcraft are popular in Spain, though it is currently unknown why the college has recently decided to make exorcism courses required.
