Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.Help Now >

Should the Queen allow Britain to leave the EU, in a move dubbed "Brexit," many fear the nation's economy would be left in shambles.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - As the U.K. approaches its in-out vote on its membership of the 28-country European Union, Queen Elizabeth continues to remain neutral about Britain's decision to possibly choose to leave.
Earlier last year, Terry Scuoler, the chief executive of U.K. manufacturer's association EEF, argued: "It makes no sense to disengage from our major market where we would still face all the costs of compliance and enjoy none of the influence. We can achieve reform by being an active and leading member from within."
The comment concerned Britain's inability to change EU policies while continuing to suffer their consequences. In early March, Mark Carney, Governor of the Bank of England, reported a Brexit would most definitely trigger a certain amount of financial and economic risk.
"The issue is the biggest domestic risk to financial stability because, in part, of the issues around uncertainty," he stated, adding the debate over membership could "amplify risks" for trade and investment, housing and financial markets.
Despite domestic risks, Carney explained international risks pose the greater problem for the British economy.
Carney believes Britain's financial center would lose business "without question" should it choose to leave the EU.In response to Carney's comments, Jacob Rees-Mogg, a lawmaker, stated, "It is beneath the dignity of the Bank of England to be making speculative pro-EU comments.
Carney replied, "I'm not going to let that stand. We are expressing views that are the views of the institution. We are not leaned on by anybody. It would have no effect if they tried."
As the banks argue, Queen Elizabeth was targeting in a tabloid magazine saying she backed the Brexit, which Buckingham Palace addressed earlier this week to say the Queen continues to remain "politically neutral as she has for 63 years.
"We will not comment on spurious, anonymously sourced claims. The referendum is a matter for the British people to decide."
