Cameron, and not Obama, to ask UN to recognize Christian genocide by ISIS

Why the world has waited so long to address the ISIS problem remains baffling

Parliament is urging David Cameron to recognize genocide in the Middle East at the hands of ISIS. Hundreds of thousands of people may have disappeared from ISIS-held territory including tens of thousands of Christians, who are thought to have been killed for their faith. Yazidis have also been exterminated.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Members of Parliament, Rob Flello and Lord Alton, have asked David Cameron to urge the UN to use the term genocide when passing resolutions regarding ISIS. Such language is important, because once codified, it will permit international authorities to hunt and arrest members of ISIS and to try them for war crimes. It would also pressure individual countries to do even more to prevent and punish participants.

Presently, members of ISIS face a patchwork of justice in the international community with each country adapting their own anti-terror laws to arrest and detain members of ISIS. However, there is no coordinated campaign to hunt down those who could be responsible for committing acts of genocide against thousands of people.

That ISIS has committed acts of genocide is beyond question. The organization has been blatantly clear that they intend to impose their religion on the rest of the world. As part of this effort, all those who belong to other religions, especially Christians and Yazidis are under threat of extermination.

There are no Christians in ISIS territory. While ISIS says it is possible for some to pay the jizya, a punishing tax imposed on Christians, and continue to live in their territory, there is no evidence any Christians still live there.

Christians are also underrepresented in refugee camps. Tens of thousands are missing. This is because most of them are under the ground, exterminated and buried in mass graves. Others have been forced into conversion.

Slavery, rape and torture have been reported by survivors who have escaped ISIS. Children have been taken from parents and fostered by ISIS families.
The UN defines genocide as follows:
"Genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such:

Killing members of the group; Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part;

Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group;
Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group."

That this has been happening is no question. That only David Cameron, and not the Obama administration is pushing this next move, is curious.

Why has the world, and the USA in particular, been playing softly with ISIS, is the real question.
